Angles everywhere

During the last two weeks we have been learning about angles. The students have had the opportunity to EXPLORE to know MORE, by engaging in the learning sites, viewing videos and playing learning games about angles.

We are currently in the process of creating our own DLO (Digital Learning Objects) to SHOW what we KNOW.
Here is just one of the very catchy songs about angles that the students have watched.

Hat and Water bottle please.

It's time now to bring a hat and a water bottle to school. As the weather gets better and the days get warmer, it's important to protect ourselves from the sun. Keeping hydrated is always important and WATER is always the preferred drink at Owairaka District School.

Learning together- Our first focus for Term 4

Mindcraft the musical-Kauri Team Production

Fantastic, Marvelous, Awesome are just a few of the words that people used to describe the Kauri Teams performances of this musical. There are just too many names to mention, as it was a momentous undertaking but the outcome was totally worth all of the effort.

As members of the Kauri Team, we had to put into practice all of our school foci to collaborate and communicate effectively.

To all of the whanau that watched the shows and especially those who helped us with props or costumes etc......THANK YOU!!!!!

To all of the students, you all have a talent that can make a production a successful one. Whether you are a main character, costume designer, props designer or a marketing whiz.
Who let the dogs out?...........   Miss Mills did!!!

This wonderful musical was written by Rachel Sutherland. In association with 'takeabowproductions.org"

Maths Week was AWE- SUM!!!!

Everyday we worked together to solve a Daily Challenge Question. We had to write our name, room number and the answer to the question on a slip of paper, to enter the daily challenge. Mr Faulder and the AWE-SUM students from Room 16, kindly collected all of the entries, made the draw and delivered the prizes. With Persistence PLUS Focus, we DIVIDED up the question in to parts, SUBTRACTED the words we didn't need to solve the problem, EQUALING problem solving success for us all. Room 19 had MULTIPLE winners during this week.

Please enjoy our presentation.

Independent learning

There are times when we need to work on our own or with a peer. This is a great time to practice being a PERSISTENT learner, as we have to stay focused and on task without someone reminding us. Here are two Room 19 learners who are demonstrating this persistence during independent maths time.

Friday 4 August 2017

Be PERSISTENT!!!

Everyday we face challenges and everyday we CONQUER them. Overcoming something that is a challenge or if we are really tired sometimes and it all seems a little harder than before, requires us to be persistent in order to achieve.

Follow these great ideas about how you can demonstrate PERSISTENCE everyday.

Being SUPER organised!!!

We have just completed our first 2 weeks of Term 3 and lots of students are demonstrating their ability to be an ORGANISED learner. There was one SUPER ORGANISED member of Room 19 who truly deserves this weeks Merit Award. She is so ORGANISED that she helps me to be ORGANISED.

Thanks Salome for being a very well organised learner in our room.

Friday 21 July 2017

Welcome back learners for Term 3 !!! It is your responsibility to Be Organised for school life.

At school we have routines. Routines are very helpful as we know what it is we are doing and what tools we will need to have in order to successfully complete learning tasks. As a member of our school it is your RESPONSIBILITY to follow these simple but very IMPORTANT suggestions about how you can Be Organised.

Manners really do matter!!!!

This week we have been thinking about having good manners and why it is important to have them. This is a brief presentation that three students in my class collaborated on to complete. I must say that, when you are working with others (collaborating)  it is important to have GOOD MANNERS so that you can work well together.

Thank you to these students for this GREAT presentation.

I would like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to my learners for all of their effort they have put in this term. I am looking forward to term 3.

Thank you to all of my students parents/caregivers and whanau members who have taken the time to catch up with me both in person and over the phone. Your support is very much appreciated by both myself and the students.

Friday 23 June 2017

Manners matter!!!!! Focus for the rest of the term. Practice them for the rest of our lives!!!

Please try to use your manners where ever you go. Thank you to those of you who stop, look and listen to the speaker. If you need to talk to someone, wait politely and then say "excuse me".  Remember that you can also say "excuse me please" when you would like to get past someone.

Our trip to MOTAT (Museum Of Transport And Technology)

On Thursday this week (22nd June, 2017), Rooms 19, 23 & 24 went to MOTAT. We had an AWESOME time exploring and engaging with the exhibits. Have you heard the expression "A picture tells a thousand words" before? Well it's true. Please enjoy viewing just a few of the pictures that were taken on this FANTASTIC day.

In the beginning..........

All 3 classes in the Dome, to meet our teacher for the day.

Then we were set free to EXPLORE and LEARN more!!!!!

Wow our classroom is really
different compared to this one!

We visited heaps of different buildings and then it was our time to have our lesson with Ben & Abby.

Ben was telling us about the different
types of bridges there are.
Ben and Abby building bridges
while explaining the science behind them
Then it was our turn...................................... to build bridges..................................................

This activity required TEAMWORK!!!
Great suspension bridge boys!
Engineers of the future.

So we learnt that bridges are made out of steel, wood and concrete. Thankfully, full scale bridges are not really made out of K'nex.

EXCELLENT team work everyone!!! You built a fantastic ARCH bridge.
On behalf of the Room 19 students and myself I would like to thank the teachers who organised this learning experience for us, the whanau who came along and supported a group and the staff at MOTAT for sharing your wealth of knowledge with us. Last but not least, the students for really engaging in all of the AWESOME exhibits.

It was just to hard to pick only 1 AMAZING student to receive this Merit Certificate this week so......

Great learners- Whole school focus for the remainder of term 1.

In order to achieve the best possible outcome when gaining knowledge, we must strive to be GREAT LEARNERS. If we strive to do the what is mentioned on our poster below, then we will also be be showing respect for ourselves and other learners in our class.

Stand up for unity- Race Relations day 2017

What an amazing day! It was fantastic to see students dressed so proudly in their cultural attire and sharing their cultural food. Here is just a few photos of Room 19's students cultural dress along with our shared lunch with our buddy class Room 10.

Sunday 12 March 2017

It's not always easy to do, but it is something that we must always strive to do!

It's really important that we strive to get along with others, doing this helps us to create a happy and healthy community. The good news is, it doesn't cost you anything to get along with others and the rewards are priceless.

Green Week in Room 19

This week has been all about being GREEN. The following is just one example of what we have been learning about. We have been discussing the beautiful parks and other community areas that we enjoy visiting. Then considering how these areas promote kotahitanga within our wonderfully diverse community. The final task, is to create a space that we would like to see in our community.

What would you create if given the resources to do so?

Be caring!

Our focus for weeks 5 & 6 is 'Be caring'. This focus ties in nicely with our upcoming Green week and it helps us to remember to care for everything and everyone around us.

Wednesday 1 March 2017

All about us!

It's taken us a little while to make this post but when you are creating a presentation about VIP's, you want to make sure that it is truly awesome. Please enjoy getting to know us. We look forward to getting to know you, through visiting your blogs and reading your comments.

Well done Christian!

This week I am very proud to say that I had a very hard time trying to choose just one student to award the Merit Certificate to during our whole school assembly. The recipient from room 19 was chosen because he demonstrated all of  our 'learning together' foci during our Garden To Table time.

Friday 17 February 2017

Celebrating our focus- Learning together.

Every odd week, all of the Kauri classes gather together to have a team assembly. They are always fun and a GREAT opportunity for us all to acknowledge some of the amazing learners we have in our classes. Each teacher can award two students a Duffy caught being good certificate and those lucky students can select a book to keep.

This week, Faavesi and Kingston received Room 19's certificates because they have both been very focused on their learning and always help others.

EXCELLENT work boys, Keep it up!!!!!

Wednesday 8 February 2017

Our focus for the next 3 weeks is;

This is a very nice focus to begin with as our overall theme for the year is 'Kotahitanga' - unity, solidarity, togetherness. If you would like to know more about our learning theme, please ask your child or you can visit our class.
