Comment of the Day

We have been learning to give positive but specific feedback to each other.

Hi Ba,z I really like your presentation because each slide was short and sweet and it gave enough information. But I think in slide five (BACKSTROKE BOYS) you should've written their full names not half . It will be really good if you changed the size of your presentation because its taken too much space and it has highlighted the writing on the side. You can't see it. Over all you did a great job.

Room 19 felt very proud indeed winning the Kauri Team Big Splash competition! We all cheered, chanted and encouraged our teammates until we were hoarse.

The Big Splash

The Big Splash

Melinda, Nahlah and I were chatting when we heard a yell. It was Mr Bennett explaining what the first race was.
Teacher's please get your kids into their line‘s for Free Style, Mr Bennett shouted! Five girls headed up to the end of the pool.
Go Melinda, Go Melinda, shouted the whole class! She was first up and we watched her blast off after Mr Faulder shouted “ON YOUR MARKS GET SET GO”
Once she had finished, Ms Frost told her she had come second. After the other three girls it was me.
I decided to dive to get a boost toward the end! Once I finished the race Ms Frost said that I’d come second. I was pretty proud of myself for coming second!!!
Iona, Leiola and Portia were finalists in freestyle!!

And the Race was on! JPEG Image
People were cheering and shouting, there were many splashes in the water. It was the first race of the day and people were shouting like elephants! It was very competitive but in the end, our class won the first race!
The next race was also very competitive but we still managed to squeeze in another win! The next two races didn't go as well.
After a while I was up for the noodle relay. I got into the water and tried kicking but my teammate was running too fast that I nearly got my face dunked in the water! Luckily I gripped on and started kicking. We made it
to the end in no time.  I jumped out of the pool and went to get my towel, keeping myself warm before my next race which was up for the seal race. I stood in the line waiting for my turn. Then I was up for my turn!JPEG Image
I didn't go as fast as I had expected to but I made it as fast as I could. I clambered out of the pool and grabbed my towel, then watched our class racing.
The rest of the class cheered as people swum.
It was soon the Finale! We had won! Our class did a dance and everyone got changed. It was a very exciting day!

Writing

Like Two Peas In A Pod!

The lovely Mrs Bhatia lent me a sari for today's Race Relations Day. We had lots of laughs getting me into it this morning. Later Bharath's mum came and added some touches to make it 'just right' Thanks to both of you.

Students as Teachers.

A very big 'Thank You' to all the students in the class who came prepared to teach  something about their culture. We learnt some New Zealand history, about the Moa, and the Maori Patu, We also learnt about Samoa and its jewellery. We were treated to two dances and a legend from Tonga.  Three girls took us on a whirlwind tour of some countries. Leiola and Roriki talked about Nuie and the Cook Island Pati. Hemi shared some facts about Latvia and Sher taught us how to count in his language.
Here a couple of videos that give you are taste of the culture within our class.
Homai te paki paki and well done.

GetWise Fun

GetWise

This morning a teacher from GetWise came to talk to us about the importance of planning for the future, He taught us that saving our money early is best. It was a fun, interactive presentation and we learned lots. One good idea was if you get money for a gift, spend half and save the other half.

Room 19 Pepeha's

This is some of Room 19's personal pepeha's. They show who and what each of us identify with such as: our mountain river or sea, tribe or iwi, marae and mother and father.

In Room 19 there are many ways to present our learning. This week for reading Nahlah had to choose a book from the class library . She decided to present her learning to us by dramatising her story. Her book was Why Dogs Sniff Bottoms.
