Garden To Table

Yesterday we had our second session of Garden To Table. We really enjoyed ourselves and learnt a  lot about how our food grows and how we can create a meal from it.

Half of the class, spent time visiting our garden beds with Richard. We learnt about what is planted there and how those plants grow, we also did some weeding. We did notice a very big problem during our weeding time...... there was a lot of fruit stickers in our gardens. We discussed how they got there and how we can prevent this problem from happening again.

The stickers that are on the fruit are non-biodegradable. So the fruit that we put into our compost bins breaks down, but not the plastic stickers. A solution is to peel the stickers off of all our fruit and stick them on to a piece of paper near our bins. Lot's of classes also use this great idea.

The garden group also got to plant some seedlings in our our class seedling tray.

As always, I would like to finish this post by saying a very BIG THANK YOU to all of the wonderful volunteers that come along and support our tamariki during this valuable learning experience.
