Funky Feet Friday-Travelwise

Thank you for supporting our Funky Feet Friday!  Walking, scootering and biking to and from school is an excellent way to include daily physical activity into your child/ren’s life, and support us to be a Travelwise School. A bonus is that this also helps to reduce traffic chaos at the school gate, which is very important for student safety.

Frank and her violin.

This term we having been learning about sound and the science behind how sounds are made.
Two reading groups in our class are reading a Junior Journal story called The Ukulele Maker by Bronwen Wall. As we read, we are learning more about how Ukuleles are made and all of the names of the parts. A person who makes stringed instruments is called a Luthier.

Frank visits our class every Thursday, and she is a very talented musician who plays in a band. She brought in her beautiful violin and ukulele and we discussed the difference between them along with the similarities.

During this time, Frank also taught us some new signs. We now know how to say we have an idea and question in New Zealand Sign language. When Frank visits us, we always learn so much.
Desire is making a circle with one hand and using her other hand to make
the tail of the letter q. She is signing that she has a Question

Leo is using his dominant hand and pointing to his head-
he is signing that he has an idea.

Kelly Sport session

Today we had our Kelly Sport taster session. Bart from Kelly Sport, shared three games with us that made us huff and puff. Here are some photo's from today.....

Whanau, whanau game.

You versed the person opposite you, then there were 4 different actions
to do. If you both did the same action the first person to shout 'He' received a point.

We all started in a line, walking to begin with. When Bart shouted 'GO' the person on the end of the line had to run up to be the first person in the line.

The human train (Sorry I forgot the real name, so I just made this one up) The first person had to run to the line then run back and pick up a passenger. The first person ran 7 laps (depending on how many people in the group)

The science of hearing.

We have started learning about sound in our class and how we hear. Yesterday, Cade was our tuakana, sharing his knowledge of how he hears. Cade wears both a hearing aid and a Cochlea Implant (C.I).  This is his story........

I got my Cochlea Implant or C.I when I was 5 years old. My brain had to learn what digital sounds were. I have a hearing aid in my other ear because it amplifies my hearing. The amplifier makes the sound waves louder. In your ear is a Cochlea. In my ear with the hearing aid, my Cochlea works. In my ear with my C.I, the cochlea doesn't work. The hairs in my ear don't work.

Kia ora Cade and Frank for sharing your knowledge with us, we have all developed a much greater understanding of how you hear and how our ears work.
