Frank and her violin.

This term we having been learning about sound and the science behind how sounds are made.
Two reading groups in our class are reading a Junior Journal story called The Ukulele Maker by Bronwen Wall. As we read, we are learning more about how Ukuleles are made and all of the names of the parts. A person who makes stringed instruments is called a Luthier.

Frank visits our class every Thursday, and she is a very talented musician who plays in a band. She brought in her beautiful violin and ukulele and we discussed the difference between them along with the similarities.

During this time, Frank also taught us some new signs. We now know how to say we have an idea and question in New Zealand Sign language. When Frank visits us, we always learn so much.
Desire is making a circle with one hand and using her other hand to make
the tail of the letter q. She is signing that she has a Question

Leo is using his dominant hand and pointing to his head-
he is signing that he has an idea.
