Scooting safely!

This week Puriri team were very lucky to have scooter safety lessons. Constable Holly shared with us some safety tips and taught us some skills.

First, we learnt about the importance of safety gear. Wearing a correctly fitted helmet is very important. Wearing shoes is also recommended in case you use your foot to stop. Finally, wearing brightly coloured clothes or reflective gear, helps you to be visible to traffic.

Next we practised stopping safely with our brake and also how to make an emergency stop. You can make an emergency stop by jumping off your scooter, landing on two feet on the same side of your scooter.

It is really important to look out for cars when crossing a driveway and we should always walk our scooter across a pedestrian crossing.
