Pepeha

We have been learning about why and how we should write our pepeha. We wrote our pepeha on a leaf and have created our very own family tree.

Here are some awesome tamariki reciting their pepeha.

Kauhoe time! Water Safety lessons

This week we had two Water Safety lessons. Today's lesson was all about life jackets and how to keep safe when we are wearing one.

Some students practised on dry land while most practised these skills in the pool. Here are some photos.

How to put a life jacket on correctly.
Do up the zip and do both clips.

Individual huddle in water

We huddle to keep ourselves warm.

We huddle together for two reasons; Tuatahi- we keep warm.
Tuarua- it makes us a bigger group, more likely to be seen by a helicopter.
We put the coldest person in the middle to keep them warm.

We now know how and why we should wear a life jacket.

Ngā mihi nui ki a koe! Congratulations to these amazing tamariki.

Today we had our first official Hui-a-kura. During this time we celebrate our tamariki, acknowledging their hard work. For Ruma rua tekau ma rua, Andrew and Leonidas received Manaakitanga certificates. Leonidas is a very kind and caring member of our whanau. Andrew always shares his thoughts with our whanau and asks great pātai.

It was a real challenge for me as a kaiako to choose only two tamariki to receive a certificate. All of the Ruma rua tekau ma rua whanau are proudly demonstrating our three school values, so keep looking at our blog to see who gets one next.

Water Safety Sessions Week 3

Water Safety Sessions Week 3, Term 1

Learning how to swim and be safe in the water is part of our Health & Physical Education Curriculum. It is very important that all of  our tamariki participate in every swimming session, so that they can learn how to be safe both in and around water.

Ruma Rua tekau ma rua will be having our Water Safety coaching sessions every day next week (Week 3). Our time is 9:35-10:05 am.

For the rest of this term, we will be swimming on a variety of different days and times. Our pool is also available for lunch time swims, so I encourage my students to bring their togs every day.
