Mātauranga Pūtaiao- Science

 All throughout this term we have been learning about Pūtaiao. This week we have been very lucky to have some guest speakers share with us their mātauranga pūtaiao (scientific skills and knowledge) with us.

On Rāhina, Stuart and Becky spoke to us about Forensic science. We learnt about DNA and how to read evidence such as shoeprints and tyre tread marks.

Today, Sally shared her expertise with us about being a Naval scientist. Some of us were lucky enough to try on the survival gear, that she has to wear while aboard the ship. Sally also told us about her visit to the Antarctic, her favourite trip.

Ngā mihi nui to Stuart,  Becky and Sally for sharing your mātauranga (knowledge) with us.

Mātai Ahupūngao Pīngore- Flexi physics

During weeks 7 and 8, we have been learning about energy. Ngā Dropper Poppers was our first activity and our Whāinga (goal) was to learn about;
  • Gravitational potential energy
  • Elastic potential energy
  • Conversion of elastic energy.
Needless to say we had heaps of fun! This experiment required us to practise our manawanuitanga, as it took a while for us to master our dropping technique.

Never heard of  a Dropper Popper before? Watch this ataata (video) to learn more about it.
