A trip back in time- Howick Historical Village visit

On Tuesday, Puriri Wha visited the Howick Historical Village. What an amazing day, filled with exciting learning opportunities.

Check out these photos..............

Activity 1: Outdoor games.

What do you notice about all of these games? What material are they made out of?

All of the objects used in these outdoor games were made out of; wood, metal and rope. Plastic hadn't been invented yet. People were very poor so they had to be very creative and resourceful.
Do any of these games seem familiar to you?

Activity 2: Communication

There were no mobile phones back then, so how did people communicate?

They used............
Morse code, Semaphore and Braille communication techniques.

Activity 3: School
Wow, things were really different then. Students typically left school at the age of 12 to get a job.
If you misbehaved, then you would receive 'six of the best'.

Thank you to all of the people that made this trip possible and to the whanau that came along with us.
